CORE BARREL for Foundation Drilling
In foundation drilling, the core barrel cuts an annular groove in hard rock to weaken its structure, making it easier to fracture and remove. Unlike geological core barrels used for sampling, this method focuses on efficiently breaking and extracting rock to enhance drilling efficiency.
RB-CB
Roller Bit Core Barrel
– Core Barrel with Roller Bit, designed to cut through rock formations with uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of 80MPa to 350MPa and high RQD, the Roller Bit Core Barrel offers a penetration rate of 300mm to 800mm per hour, depending on soil conditions.
– Compared to core barrels with bullet teeth, the RB-CB enhances penetration rates, reduces drilling chatter, and minimizes strain on drilling rigs.
– Available in both bolt-on and welding types.

BT-CB
Bullet Teeth Core Barrel
– Core Barrel with Round Shank Chisel (RSC) is widely used in piling and foundation projects for medium rock drilling where conventional rock augers are less efficient. It is suitable for rocks with a uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of up to 100 MPa.
– In some cases, contractors also use the RSC Core Barrel to break and extract rock cores, utilizing a wedge plate welded inside the barrel for enhanced extraction.

FAQ...
What is a Core Barrel?
A core barrel is a foundation drilling tool used to cut and extract a cylindrical core from hard rock or reinforced concrete formations. It is typically used in rotary drilling rigs for deep foundation work, particularly when dealing with boulders, hard layers, or obstacles that augers cannot penetrate effectively
What’s the difference between a Roller Bit Core Barrel and a Bullet Teeth Core Barrel?
The key difference lies in the cutting mechanism and application:
Roller Bit Core Barrel uses singel roller bit that rotate and crush the rock through rolling action. It is ideal for very hard formations such as granite or basalt.
Bullet Teeth Core Barrel is equipped with welded bullet teeth that cut by chipping the rock. It is suitable for medium-hard to slightly reinforced strata and offers lower cost and easier maintenance.
How to choose the right Core Barrel for your project?
Selection depends on the ground condition and drilling rig:
Use roller bit core barrels for high-strength rock formations.
Choose bullet teeth core barrels for general-purpose drilling in mixed or medium strata.
Consider double wall core barrels for higher precision and better core retention.
.
What are the main components of a Core Barrel?
A standard core barrel consists of:
Casing Body – the outer barrel structure.
Cutting Teeth – roller bits or bullet teeth mounted around the ring.
Pilot Bit – central cutting element guiding the barrel.
Kelly Box/Drive Hub – for connecting to the rig.
Core Catcher (optional) – to retain the extracted core.
